my gosh, Jacqueline. I can’t believe Elsker is finally here! I’m
jumping up and down and flinging confetti all over the place today.
And I wouldn’t be flinging and jumping without you.
For
those who don’t know, I’m the luckiest writer in the world --
Jacqueline Gardner is my critique partner. She’s fantastically
supportive, incredibly astute, and exceptionally articulate. She’ll
tell you what’s wrong with your manuscript without ever making you
feel bad, and she’ll keep you motivated on your most
rejection-filled days. Jacqueline, we both know Elsker would never
have left my computer without your encouragement. And I am eternally
grateful.
Since
JG and I love baking almost as much as writing, let’s introduce the
Elsker cast and have a little Cupcake Party!
The
story:
Elsker follows
twenty-year old Kristia Tostenson as she leaves her one stoplight
town of Nehalem, Oregon, to find adventure at Cardiff University, in
Wales. Kristia gets a lot more than she bargained for when she
falls in love with Ull Myhr. He’s not just a graduate student --
he’s an Asgardian Assassin, and the Norse God of Winter. Kristia’s
orderly life is about to get seriously complicated.
The
crew:
Ull
- The God of Winter is Thor’s stepson, an Asgardian Assassin, and a
6’5” Nordic Adonis. He’s seen a lot over the centuries. And
though he’s always wanted a family of his own, the idea of falling
in love absolutely terrifies him.
Ull’s
Cupcake -- If Ull
were a cupcake he’d be a Flourless Chocolate with Ganache. Strong,
rich, and undeniably sweet. I’ll take two!
Kristia
- The small town girl who has no idea just how huge the universe
really is, Kristia loves art, her friends, and rules. She’s read
Emily Post cover to cover, and she holds on tight to her orderly
ways.
Kristia’s
Cupcake -- If
Kristia were a cupcake she’d be a Red Velvet with Cream Cheese
Frosting. Perfectly traditional, a staple in the
manners-minded-South, but with just a little kick. Because still
waters run deep, and there’s more to Kristia than meets the eye.
Inga
-- One of Ull’s best friends, this Domestic Goddess is the Fight
Choreographer for Odin’s Army. She’s head over heels for her
handsome hubby Gunnar, and she’d do absolutely anything to protect
her best friend.
Inga’s
Cupcake -- If Inga
were a cupcake she’d be a Lemon Burst. Equal parts sunshine and
tartness, she’ll knock you out if you’re not ready for her.
Olaug
-- Ull’s grandma, she’s warm, kind, and more than a little bit
sassy. She loves her grandson and his friends, and happily bakes
their favorite Norsk waffles. She’ll give you her recipe, too!**
Just don’t tell her if you serve them with Nutella instead of a
tart jam -- she’s a stickler for tradition.
Olaug’s
Cupcake -- If
Olaug were a cupcake, she’d be a Vanilla with Chocolate Frosting.
Simple, classic, no frills, but practically perfect in every way.
**Seriously,
Olaug gives out her waffle recipe at the end of Elsker. Get ready to
buy some bigger pants.
